Fanny Pack or Bum Bag? Check Out My Outrageous Vintage Find!
If you’re an American guy or gal– you will not know what a bum bag is – actually you will, but you will call it a fanny pack.
There is a joke in the UK version of The Office about the meaning of the word fanny in the UK and Australia – Americans beware – in Australia ‘fanny’ is a euphemism for vagina.
Fanny pack or bum bag – I found this pearler on the weekend, which I want to share with you. It is a vintage original 90s sequined American flag bum bag/fanny pack. It’s pretty much the most awesome thing I have ever bought.
I should say here right now – that the bum bag wiki page redirects to fanny pack – so it would seem that this is the more common term worldwide (or is the web skewed US?)
From the wiki fanny pack page:
Many observers consider the fanny pack a sure mark of an out-of-place tourist, evoking the traditional tourist stereotypes known around the world, or regard them as an item worn by unfashionable or older people.
There is a massive 90s fashion revival going on now – and I say – bring it on! Grunge, bomber, fly, ska, docs, hyper-color – it’s all coming back. I was too cool to wear a fanny pack in the 90s but I think you’ll agree that my day has finally come.

I know it as bum bag and seeing you right now makes me realize that I need one right now. You look nice tho!
Thanks so much KIm – the fanny pack / bum bag has quite polarized my friends – some say nay – some say – oh yes yes yes!
I say, it’s a Yay! 😀
